Highlights

Untappd for Business, a digital menu service used by nearly 20,000 restaurants, bars and breweries globally, has teamed up with technology platform Toast to auto-update food and drinks items in real time. The new partnership will mean that hospitality venues can integrate and synchronise all of their drinks menus, will also help sites automatically import items such as: food, beer, wine, cocktails as well as non-alcoholic beverages into Untappd. Untappd is owned by the company Next Glass, has completed the agreement so that point of sale (PoS) at each location will be able to be adjusted so that people working at the venues can see all menu item attributes during the syncing process as well as look up items, review the information and make any amendments as needed. Data mapping As an additional benefit to how efficient the system runs, the company has assured that Toast’s automatic data mapping function is set to streamline and perfect menu inventories by "refining details such as item categories, container types, and other key information" to ensure each hospitality venue displays everything exactly as it is. Speaking to the drinks business about the deal, Next Glass CEO Trace Smith said: “We know this integration will save thousands of hospitality operators valuable time that they can reallocate to further enhancing the guest experience.” Saving time Smith explained: “More of our customers use Toast than any other PoS solution, so it was an obvious decision for us to partner to solve this pain point and save thousands of mutual customers' time.” Revealing how this was an area of functionality in digital PoS equipment that the trade had been crying out for, Smith told db: “Syncing PoS inventory to our best-in-class menu solution to eliminate duplicating item addition in both systems has been our top feature request from users.” Assessing how this deal improves the sector, Smith added: “Untappd for Business continues to evolve as a connected platform that makes running a restaurant, bar, or taproom more seamless..” Expansion Last year, Untappd expanded its rating and review platform to include assessments of other drinks alongside beer such as spirits, wines, canned cocktails, THC-infused drinks, coffees and carbonated soft drinks. The Untappd business model for reviewing drinks across its menus and other functionalities already spans 450 styles and more than 900 total distinct drink categories reflecting producers of all sizes as well as consumers with myriad tastes to offer a comprehensive snapshot of the sector and its trends.
